There is a segment of the population that has never gone to a chiropractor for treatment because they presume that all these doctors treat is back pain. While doctors of chiropractic medicine do treat back pain (that is like saying a police officer drives a police cruiser), a chiropractor is capable of treating a host of conditions.
An Ounce of Prevention
Chiropractors are not only great at treating pain, they are experts in preventative medicine. Some of the conditions that the doctor can treat include, but are not limited, to the following.
- High blood pressure. When tension builds up in the body it can lead to the increase in blood pressure. Another scenario would be if a person is in pain, the heart pumps harder to help compensate and that raises blood pressure. Chiropractic adjustments can reduce both the tension and pain being felt so your blood pressure will drop to safer levels.
- If you have headaches then going to a chiropractor for routine treatments should be moved up to the top of your list. Instead of taking pills that do not deal with the cause of your headache, the doctor will determine what is causing the headache then, using a series of chiropractic manipulations or adjustments, reduce the amount of pain and stress being felt. Most people experience some degree of pain relief from their very first treatment.
- Pregnancy related pain. As a mother, you will go through a host of body changes that can lead to back pain and pains in various parts of your body. Since you do not want to expose your child to potentially harmful chemicals found in painkillers, your chiropractor will be able to help reduce the pain you are feeling without any side-effects to the baby. Not only can adjustments help you during the pregnancy, they can also assist you post-pregnancy during the recovery phase. It would also be great to bring your baby to the chiropractor for routine checkups.
These are just some of the conditions treated by chiropractic care, but it is not all of them. A chiropractor would be able to identify potential issues in your body before they would turn into a full-blown condition. Dealing with potential issues before they turn into problems will help you lead a better quality of life.
Thinking that you don’t need to visit a chiropractor unless you have a sore back is like rationalizing the need to only see a dentist if you have a broken tooth. Chiropractic care is going to help you maximize the quality of your life but you need to take the first step and schedule an appointment.
